Korea holds the recurve line, India breaks through in compound
The archery program at the 2026 Asian Games wrapped at Okazaki Central Park on 3 October, and it split almost evenly along national lines: Korea kept its grip on Olympic-style recurve, while India turned in the best compound showing of its history.
6–2 — Lee Woo-seok (KOR) d. Nakanishi Junya (JPN) — Men's individual recurve
Lee, 29, won the set-by-set shootout 29-26, 27-27, 29-29, 29-27 for his second gold of the Games, having already anchored Korea's 5-1 win over India in the men's team recurve final a day earlier alongside Kim Je-deok and Kim Woo-jin.
Kumkum Anil Mohod (IND) d. Oh Ye-jin (KOR) in a shoot-off — Women's individual recurve
Mohod shot three 10s in the deciding end to force a 5-5 tie and won it in the shoot-off, completing a team-and-individual double gold. Oh, the top-ranked recurve woman heading into Okazaki, left with two silvers instead.
- Women's compound team: India d. China — 238–234
- Men's compound team: India d. China (Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru) — final
- Mixed compound team: India (Sahil Jadhav / Chikitha Taniparthi) d. Korea in a shoot-off — final
Three compound team golds in a single Games is new territory for Indian archery, and it came on the same trip where the recurve squad also medalled — the kind of spread result that's hard to dismiss as one good week. Reports on India's final medal count from the Games disagree by one (53 vs. 54 total, across all sports), which is likely just a reporting lag rather than anything to do with archery itself.
Bommadevara wins the shoot-off heard in Saltillo
6–5 — Dhiraj Bommadevara (IND) d. Nakanishi Junya (JPN) shoot-off: 10–9 — Men's recurve, World Cup Final
At the season-ending Hyundai Archery World Cup Final on 12–13 September, Bommadevara took the gold-medal match to a decider and beat Nakanishi on a single arrow — a 10 against Nakanishi's 9. It's the first individual World Cup Final title won by an Indian man, and it came in the same window as a second podium for Olympic bronze medallist Mete Gazoz of Türkiye, who took bronze in the men's recurve event.
The women's recurve field was notably thin on Asian talent — several of the world's top-ranked women, including Korea's and China's leading archers, skipped Saltillo to prepare for the Asian Games instead, leaving the draw unusually open. Full results for the women's recurve, men's compound and women's compound finals weren't carried as widely as the men's recurve final; check World Archery's results portal directly for the complete podium.
World Archery lifts restrictions on Russia, sets 2027 hosts
Away from the shooting line, World Archery's federation news this quarter centred on three decisions: it lifted the restrictions placed on Russian athletes, teams and officials; it published the calendar for the 2027 Hyundai Indoor World Series; and it named the Gold Coast, Australia as host of the 2027 World Archery Para Championships.
New Zealand sweeps its own championships
At the Oceania Championships in Auckland, New Zealand took all four Olympic-style titles on home soil: Ben McLean and Julia Harrison in recurve, Riku Van Tonder and Lisa Walker in compound.
What's live and what's next
As of today, one World Archery event is actually mid-competition:
- 13–18 Oct — World Para Series, Santiago, Chile — underway now; results weren't posted yet as of this writing.
- 14–18 Oct — South American Youth & Masters Championships, Daule, Ecuador.
- 19–24 Oct — Asian Para Games, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan — archery follows the able-bodied Asian Games into the same region.
- 30 Oct–1 Nov — Swiss Open, Lausanne, Switzerland.
- 31 Oct– — Youth Olympic Games open in Dakar, Senegal.
Everyone's already pointed at LA28
Almost every federation update this autumn mentions Los Angeles 2028 in the same breath as the result itself. Indonesia is sending ten archers to the Asian Games specifically to build toward LA28. Canada's new season opens its Olympic pathway through the Pan Am Championships in Guadalajara. Mexico, fresh off three bronze medals at World Cup Stage 1 in Puebla, is framing its whole cycle around the home-continent Games. Two years out, archery's results pages are starting to read less like a season and more like a qualifying ladder.
Compiled from World Archery, national federation statements and wire coverage current as of 16 October 2026. Where a single outlet reported a result (notably some Saltillo category winners), that's noted above — check World Archery's official results portal for confirmation.
